Table Talk – October 2015

Pinch and a punch for the first day of the month! Happy October!! (can you believe it?!)

Table Talk is to inspire and inform you on some of the best events, topical news and freshest seasonal food each month.

So what’s hot in the kitchen this month? Find out below what we’re most excited about:

  1. Artichokes
  2. Labour Day Long Weekend
  3. Sculpture By The Sea
  4. Aisle One
  5. Good Food Month – Sydney

October

Artichokes

Call me sad but I get overly excited when I see Artichokes back on the grocers shelves. They are just so beautiful to look at don’t you think?

In the past, whilst I was mesmerised by their beauty, I was a tad scared to cook with them. After a few attempts, I worked out a simple way to cook and marinate them. I adore serving these with a platter of cheese & fresh bread. If you’re ready to get over your fear of artichokes, try our step by step recipe guide here.

Labour Day (NSW, ACT, SA, QLD)

We’re only days away till the long weekend and I can’t wait! Actually tomorrow hubby and I are flying out to Hamilton Island for an extra loooong weekend, not to mention our babymoon (yesss!).

This weekend promises to be a hot one for most of Australia, and we’re not just talking about the weather. There are 2 major sporting grand finals; the NRL and AFL which are already turning up the heat.

With temperatures rising and footy fever here, I can already smell the smoke of bbq’s lighting up across the country. To add further spice to the fire, try our Spicy BBQ Rub for your favourite piece of meat…..we love this on chicken wings.

Sculpture By The Sea

Did you know that Sculpture By The Sea is in its 19th year?!

Kicking off on the 22nd October till the 8th November in Bondi, the event promises to be bigger and better than ever. The Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk is incredibly picturesque even in its normal state, but transforms into a magical, awe-inspiring 2km long sculpture park for this event. I recommend starting at Bondi and finishing up on Bronte hill for a spot of brunch or lunch at the iconic Three Blue Ducks.

Aisle One

The Aisle One app is one of Australia’s best technology innovations for foodies who support local, fresh, seasonal produce…and crave convenience (what’s not to love!).

Currently available on Ipad, Aisle One is the app behind Australia Farmers Direct, a national food and grocery delivery business. With just a swipe you can place products from the virtual shelf into your shopping cart and continue swiftly to the online checkout. The app will be available on Iphones shortly and Android by the end of the year.

Download the app here.
