Food Revolution Day 2016
Hands up foodies for Food Revolution Day 2016!!!
As an official Australian ambassador of Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution, I’m incredibly excited & honoured to share with you the what, why and how you can be a revolutionary too. There’s also a free goodie for you in todays blog post.
So what is Food Revolution Day?
It’s a celebration and the opportunity to put the spotlight on an ongoing, global campaign to provoke debate and inspire positive, meaningful change in the way our children access, consume and understand food.
We’re in the middle of a global health crisis. Right now an astounding 41 million children under five are overweight, while another 159 million are too undernourished to grow properly. We’re failing both our children and future generations by not empowering them with the right food and skills they need to grow healthily and happily.
Sadly, overweight and obesity remains on the rise in Australia too. Scarily 1 in 4* children aged 5-17 are now overweight or obese and that’s just not good enough!
As a new mum, this fact saddens me to the core, especially knowing how important healthy food is for strong growth and development. We’re about to start our bub on solids (that’s a whole other story for another day!) and it makes me think, how many kids don’t receive their right to a healthy start in life due to poverty, lack of eduction around food and cooking or misleading labelled baby food products.
The Food Revolution is right at the heart of all the work Jamie and the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation do day in, day out, to engage and inspire people of all ages to learn about food and how to cook it.
Which brings me to your free goodie….
Cooking wholesome, nutritious food in the home is where good health begins.
So how can you help?
Today is all about raising awareness and spreading the message.
Jump on over to the Food Revolution site and become a revolutionary yourself. The more people whom jump onboard, the more the team can pressurise governments and businesses to get serious about how they provide children with access to nutritious food.
In 2016, campaigning has and will include the World Health Assembly, the Nutrition for Growth Summit in Rio and the UN General Assembly in New York.
We have the power to make a change from the ground up.
***Take on the Food Revolution Omelette Challenge – hurry, competition ends June 3rd 2016!!!***
